Suffering from calf pain is quite a common occurrence for participants in sports such as athletics, soccer and rugby. Your muscle group in the calf area consists of two muscles, the gastrocnemius and the soleus, and they are attached to your Achilles tendon.
Calf pain and injuries can hit both the muscle and the tendons. Calf pain is usually caused by excessive force and contraction, or when your calf muscles fatigue.
The calf muscles support and protect your shin bone from the rear and sides. Here excessive load through your shin bone (tibia) can result in shin and calf pain and related injuries.
